Nathan Lustig

Fisheries Biologist

Hello, my name is Nathan Lustig, and I'm proud to serve as the Fisheries Biologist for the Nicola Watershed Stewardship and Fisheries Authority.

I have only just begun my journey with STC, bringing with me a passion for conserving and enhancing our watershed for fish and wildlife. In my role, I plan, coordinate, and supervise projects aimed at achieving these goals, as well as supporting the salmon stock assessment program in the fall. Additionally, I advocate for the health and sustainability of BC Pacific Salmon stocks, particularly in safeguarding local salmon populations for the Indigenous communities of the Nicola Valley.

Originally I am from central Alberta, and my affinity for the outdoors and wild places led me to pursue my education in British Columbia. I graduated from the University of British Columbia Okanagan with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in ecology, evolution, and conservation biology. My journey with STC began in 2023 as a fisheries technician, where I developed a deep appreciation for the Indigenous approach to fisheries management. I am truly honored and excited to work with this incredible organization.

One of the highlights of living in the Nicola Valley is the diverse landscape it offers. From rolling grasslands to large and small lakes, multiple rivers, and towering mountains, all within an hour's drive from Merritt, it's truly a nature lover's paradise. Additionally, the welcoming and friendly community adds to the area's charm.

I am eager to contribute to the conservation efforts and community well-being in the Nicola Valley.
