Eva Tom

Hello! My name is Eva Marie Tom, and for the past four years, I've served as the Water Governance Coordinator at NWGP. My role involves coordinating and gathering knowledge of Nlaka’pmux and Syilx laws, and exploring how Indigenous laws can be integrated into current water management and governance practices.

My professional journey has been diverse, encompassing roles as a receptionist, adult instructor, First Nation support worker, care aide, community researcher, lands manager, and administrative assistant. However, my true passion lies in research and engaging with Elders, Knowledge Holders, and Language Speakers.

I've pursued various educational opportunities and training programs through a variety of institutions regarding Indigenous Law, Revitalizing Indigenous Law for Land, Air and Water, and I have also obtained my Ecological Knowledge Certificate.  My current educational endeavour that I am most passionate about is learning the nsyilxcən language and using this language on my journey.

Living in the Nicola Valley, I'm grateful for the land's abundant resources and am committed to stewardship for future generations. In order for my family and I to continue enjoying what the land and water provides for us, we need to be caretakers of our tmixʷ and tmxʷulaxʷ, and this is a lifelong learning journey.
