Scw’exmx Tribal Council

Vaughn “Tehoweesonte” Sunday
Executive Director
Welcome! I am honored to introduce myself as the newly appointed Executive Director of Scw’exmx Tribal Council (STC), joining this esteemed organization in January of 2024.
In my role, I am deeply committed to collaborating with the dedicated staff of the Scw'exmx Tribal Council and the five Nicola Valley Nations to chart a strategic course for our collective future. Over the next five years, my primary focus is to spearhead the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan that reflects the aspirations and needs of our communities. This plan will be crafted through inclusive dialogue, drawing insights from elected officials, past leaders, band administrators, and STC management. Through this collaborative effort, we aim to fortify our communication channels, foster growth, and provide vital support and resources to the five Bands of the Nicola Valley.
I am a member of the Mohawks of Akwesasne in Ontario, I bring over three decades of experience in First Nation Administration to my role. I enjoy going to ceremonies and speaking my language. I have dedicated my career to serving Indigenous communities, both in my own homeland and here in British Columbia. I am a Certified Aboriginal Professional Administrator (CAPA) with AFOA Canada and a holder of a master’s degree in public administration from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. My education stems from the 30 years of experience working in Indigenous governance and administration.
I have found that working in the Territory of the Nlaka’pmux and Syilx Nations that the people are welcoming and inviting. Having spent my entire life on reserve and currently as a member of the Manuel clan, we hunt, fish and gather plants and berries as a family.
In working for Scw'exmx Tribal Council we are guided by a shared vision of prosperity and empowerment for our member nations. Together, we will navigate the path ahead, grounded in Nlaka'pamux and Syilx cultures and shared history.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my aspirations for our organization. Let us work together to create a better future.
