Tyson Saul

Field Crew Supersivor

Hello! My name is Tyson Saul, and I am proud to call Merritt my hometown. My roots trace back to the Coldwater Indian Band, with a familial connection to the Xaxlip (Fountain) Indian Band as well. Currently, I serve as the Field Crew Supervisor at TmixÊ· Research Department, a role I hold with great enthusiasm and dedication.

My journey with Scw’exmx Tribal Council began in 2019 when I joined as a field technician. In this capacity, I worked diligently at the Highland Valley Copper mine, conducting shovel tests, excavation units, and assisting with shovel test layouts. These activities were crucial in screening for artifacts and contributing to our understanding of the land's history.

In 2019, I furthered my expertise by completing the Natural Resources Training program and RISC training at NVIT. This training paved the way for my transition to the role of Field Crew Supervisor, a position where I now oversee the scheduling and coordination of field technicians for various projects. These projects encompass a wide range of activities, including Preliminary Field Reconnaissance blocks (PFRs) for cut blocks, environmental monitoring, cultural monitoring, and Indigenous Advisory Monitoring Committee monitoring.

Following fieldwork, I compile comprehensive PFR reports for project proponents, offering recommendations aimed at promoting sustainable harvesting practices while safeguarding the land, water, and wildlife integral to First Nation community livelihoods and cultural practices.

Beyond my professional endeavors, I find peace and joy in the great outdoors. Whether it's exploring the land, fishing in the lakes of the valley, or delving deeper into my cultural heritage, I am continuously inspired by the beauty and richness of our surroundings.

I am deeply passionate about my work and committed to contributing to the preservation and understanding of our cultural heritage and natural resources.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me, and I look forward to continuing this journey of exploration and growth together.
